Our Beloved Bishop, The Rt. Revd. S.O. Sowale Ph.D.prayerfully welcomes you to make use of the website for your spiritual benefits and to the glory of the Almighty God and His Son Jesus Christ, "the Owner of His Church".

Brief History of St James's Church, Imo - Ilesa
The St. James’ Anglican Church, Imo Ilesa is situated at Fasoro Street, Imo Ilesa, it is bounded in the West by the Obokun High School, in the East by the Compound of the Rt. Revd. J.A.I. Falope, while the Muslim Praying Ground forms it bounded, North Eastwards.
For a long time, it had been the desire of the Cathedral Church of St. John Iloro, Ilesa to build a new Church somewhere else, and the idea came up during the time of Archdeacon Jadesimi before he became the Assistant Bishop of the Dicoese of Ibadan. The initial plan was to build the proposed Church around Oke-Eso Street; it was not until 1971 during the time of Archdeacon Idowu that the proposal came into reality.
The burning desire prompted the Iloro Church dignitaries to approach the late Chief Ayoke Omole (a.k.a. Olorunlogbon) for the use of her house at Imo Street for Church service. She readily released the first floor of her building free, where the first Church service was held on the 22nd day of August, 1971 at 6.00p.m. The evening service was conducted by the Late Rev. Ijitona (He was then a Lay Reader). Late Mr. Awosan was also among the pioneering workers, while the Revd. E.A. Ademowo sometime conducted evening services there. Prominent among the regular Church members were Chief S.O. Akinbolagbe, Mr. Ojo Gbamolayun (a.k.a. Ojo Manager) with his family, Pa. Olowookere with his family, Chief M.O. Falope Ayeko with with his family, Late Mr. G. Makinde, Mrs. Ajayi, the Iya Egbe Aya Bishop (Cathedral Iloro) and good number of Obokun G.C.E.  Students mostly non-indigenes.
Earlier, more than two acres of land had been bought from Chief Daramola, the Onimo of Imo through the efforts of Chief S.O. Akinbolagbe, Chief M.O. Falore and Late Chief Esho. The land however was not utilized due to its topography and financial constraints. On the 27th January 1974, the Late Rt. Revd. J.A.I. Falope (the then Archdeacon of Iloro) brought Pa. J.O.A. Ajibola, a retired Catechist, to head the Church.
He continued to hold the evening service with full support of the aforementioned Church dignitaries. It was Pa. Ajibola who first opened a Savings Bank Account for the Church with a sum of five Naira (N5.00). the first Harvest Thanksgiving Service was held in the evening of 30th November, 1975, realizing a sum of one hundred and fifty naira, twenty kobo (150.20). Pa. Ajibola continued to nurse the Church until the 10th September, 1978 when the Revd. F.A. Akinola was put in charge.
To the glory of God, the first Church Sanctuary was laid on the 5th July 1980 by the Rt. Rev. J. A. I. Falope and was dedicated on 18th Feb. 1984 by the Rt. Rev. G. I. O. Olajide. The present Church Sanctuary was dedicated on Saturday 8th May 2010 by the Rt. Rev. Dr. S. O. Sowale.
It is noteworthy to make mention of the English section of the above named church, which started – 1985 as a result of non speaking Yoruba among the congregation. We cannot but make mention of the activities of Prof. M.O. Ayodele and his wife together with Dr. O.A. Oni, medical practioner who together with his children joined the fellowship.
When the fellowship was becoming more and more strong, the Vicar then Rev. (Now Rt. Rev.) Ayo Awosoga gave the fellowship support to invite children of God to come and give testimonies; it was then tagged “Festival of testimonies which later metamorphosed into the current “Jesus celebration” which is now organized by our Diocese.
Thanks be to God, the seed sown then has been growing with amazing rapidity through the efforts of the past and the present workers and their assistants; coupled with the efforts of people like Dr. O.A. Oni, Prof. & Mrs. L.M. Oginni Mr & Mrs. M.B. Olajide, Mrs. Lola Omole and Mr & Mrs. S.O. Omoniyi to mention but few.
Today we appreciate God for the Spiritual and physical development of the church, St. James Anglican Church Imo Ilesa which is known as the “Citadel of Praise” is in no doubt comprises of members who have passion for the advancement of the Kingdom of God on earth.
